2026 SHPEP Virtual Alumni Summit
On Saturday, October 3 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, join us for the SHPEP Virtual Alumni Summit, a free gathering designed exclusively for program alums (past participants) of the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) across all four iterations of its remarkable history, including those who participated in the Minority Medical Education Program (MMEP), the Summer Medical Education Program (SMEP), and the Summer Medical and Dental Education Program (SMDEP).
Since 1989, this program has welcomed a community of scholars now more than 35,000 strong. No matter if your summer experience was decades ago or just this year, you are part of a legacy that continues to shape the future of health professions, including dentistry, medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, and beyond.
Across one energizing event, you will engage with fellow alums and program leaders through:
- The Distance Traveled Alumni Panel: Hear from alums representing every iteration of the program, from MMEP to SHPEP, as they reflect on their personal, academic, and professional journeys.
- Breakout Sessions: Choose from focused workshops facilitated by the SHPEP National Alumni Advisory Board on various topics such as exploring non-traditional career pathways, mentoring and networking, dual-degree programs, wellness and resilience, and more!
- Speed Networking: Build meaningful connections with your fellow program alums across cohorts, program sites, and career stages in quick one-on-one rounds.
